Decisions & Choices

Decisions and choices go hand-in-hand. In fact, many people use these words interchangeably or even have different definitions for them than the ones I will propose and that is fine. Matter of fact, I won’t even provide definitions, I’ll just speak about them in the context of what the words mean to me and hope that it connects with you in a similar way.

Decision comes first and has to do with our attitude and drive. We decide what we want to do, be, and where we want to go. From there, we should make choices that support our decision. Every choice that we make should go back to our decision. In this sense, decisions are almost like goals. Once we set a goal, we know what we are working towards, so everything that we do, we do with that goal in mind.

Making decisions is also like creating a vision for our life. We know that without vision, people perish and are unrestrained. That’s from Proverbs 29:18. To be without restraint means we’re just out here being all willy nilly and inhibiting ourselves because we’re not sure where we’re heading or what we’re trying to do. When we make decisions, we are eliminating all other alternatives and deciding on what one thing we’re going to pursue.

Choices, to me are the fun part. When we're doing this thing, we should make choices that support our decisions. I have decided that I wanted to do this one thing, so now I’m going to choose to do things that show that.

I believe that our choices should be bold and should be public. When we’re really out here doing things that support our decisions, people should be able to see. If you decide to change your lifestyle and part of that includes changing your diet, people should start to see you choosing to eat different things and turning down things that don’t support this new lifestyle.

I believe that our choices are how we show people, including ourselves, just how determined we are. We should be making so many choices that support our decisions that there’s never any question about what we’re ultimately doing. When we’re really out here chasing a dream, it should be written all over us.

The call to action here: if you haven’t already, take some time to reflect on what you ultimately want to accomplish in life. Decide who you want to be and what you want to do. Decide and declare it! Then think about the choices you need to start making to support that. With who you decided to be, how will people be able to know what you decided based on the choices you make?

Whatever you feel led to declare, decide to be awesome and choose to be great!
